Alexis Hartman, a junior at Cherokee High School, was recently awarded a $400 scholarship for summer music study at the Chamber Music Institute at Rutgers University.
She is a piano student of Ellen G. Shapiro, who teaches inĀ Marlton.
The New Jersey chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs sponsored theĀ award.
Hartman is a first violinist with the Cherokee High School String Ensemble, Lenape Regional Orchestra, and was selected to participate in the All South Jersey Orchestra earlier this year. She is also a first violinist in the South Jersey Pops Orchestra.
Hartman earned a gold cup piano from the federation for three years of superior ratings at the annual spring festival held in Cherry Hill. This year she is also performing at the National Guild of Piano Teachers in June held annually at Jacobs Music RecitalĀ Hall.
Hartman plans to study music education in college upon high school graduation.
