Weekly Roundup: Alumni say goodbye to Evans Elementary, Y.A.L.E. School approved to lease building

Students and staff past and present say goodbye to closing Evans Elementary School

The past and present collided this week when generations of students and staff from Evans Elementary School filled the halls to celebrate the school’s 60th anniversary and say their goodbyes before the school closes at the end of this school year. Those at Evans decided to throw the school’s doors wide open one last time by expanding invitations to its annual ice cream social to all student and staff alumni from the past six decades.

Evesham BOE approves lease bid for Evans Elementary School to Y.A.L.E. School

The Evesham Township Board of Education has approved a lease bid for Evans Elementary School to private school operator Y.A.L.E. School Southeast, Inc. Superintendent John Scavelli said the agreement with Y.A.L.E. School is a full-service lease set for five years, with the first year’s rent totaling $665,910 and all fees incorporated into the rental agreement, including broker commission fees as well as anticipated property taxes.

Evesham Police Department and 7-Eleven partnering on ‘Operation Chill’ community policing project

The Evesham Police Department and 7-Eleven convenience store chain are once partnering again on the “Operation Chill” community policing project. For the 22nd year, 7-Eleven is working with local police departments to distribute free Slurpee coupons to children through this community outreach effort. Officers on patrol will have a supply of the coupons and distribute them to those youth they feel act in an appropriate manner.

Evesham Police Department and 7-Eleven partnering on ‘Operation Chill’ community policing project

The following report is on file with the Evesham Township Police Department:

On June 6 at 9:52 a.m., an Evesham Police officer was conducting speeding enforcement in the area of Elmwood Road when he conducted a motor vehicle stop on a speeding vehicle. According to police, during the stop the driver was arrested for having an outstanding traffic warrant. In the course of the motor vehicle stop the officer also developed information to make him believe narcotics were inside the vehicle.

Resurfacing work to being on Hainesport-Mt Laurel Road and Greentree Road in Evesham and Mt. Laurel

Burlington County Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio announced this week that resurfacing of a 1.3 mile portion of Hainesport-Mt. Laurel Road/Greentree Road in Mount Laurel and Evesham Townships is expected to begin on June 12. The project will be completed in two stages. Motorists using the roadway may experience delay and are recommended to find alternative routes during the work.
