Seats were shuffled at the Cherry Hill Board of Education re-organization’s brief, 30-minute long meeting on Thursday, Jan. 3.
Following November’s election, Dr. J. Barry Dickinson replaced Wayne Tarken’s spot on the board, while incumbents Kathy Judge and Colleen Horiates were again sworn in.
All three will serve three-year terms.
Judge was nominated to replace Seth Klukoff as board president. She was previously the board’s vice president.
Member Carol Matlack was then chosen to be the board’s new vice president.
Klukoff volunteered to be the district’s representative to the Camden County School Boards’ Association Executive Committee, while Matlack opted to continue being the representative to the Camden County School Boards’ Association Executive Committee.
Judge said she’d be “happy to continue” in her role as the representative to the Camden County Educational Services Commission until at least June.
A bulk of the meeting was spent recognizing Klukoff’s service as board president.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to work with,” said Superintendent Dr. Maureen Reusche, who said that he helped her in her transition to her current role from assistant superintendent.
“I also want to thank your family for allowing us to have that much of your time in dedication to the district,” she said. “It’s wonderful to have someone who served as president remain on the board.”
According to member Sherri Cohen, Klukoff’s leadership helped each of the board members voice their own opinions, come to a consensus and move on.
“It’s been an honor,” she said.
“You’ve given us so much,” added Horiates.
While Judge, the new president, said that it “takes a village,” she said Klukoff has been a “fabulous mentor.”
“There is no way I will be able to fill the shoes of Seth Klukoff as president,” she said. “I’m just going to go down another path.”
Knowing that he will only be a phone call or text away will help with the transition, she said.
“I suppose this will cross my mind: ‘What would Seth do?’” she said.
