The Board of Trustees at a special meeting on Feb. 7 appointed Mann.

She will officially begin her new position on Feb. 25.

Mann brings with her a wide range of experience and leadership in the library field. She was most recently Managing Director of the Piscataway Public Library’s Westergard branch.

Prior to that, she spent seven years as the Senior Librarian at the Mercer County Library System’s Ewing branch.

Mann serves as Chairwoman of the New Jersey Library Association’s Member Services Committee and is active in the statewide library community. She earned her Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Drexel University.

“I am thrilled to join the Cherry Hill Public Library, and I look forward to improving upon the services we currently offer,” Mann said. “We will be adding new, creative programs for all populations, from babies to seniors, as well as expanding our outreach and building stronger partnerships with Cherry Hill Township and our schools. Through innovative ideas, my vision is to make the Cherry Hill Public Library the best municipal library in New Jersey!”

In 2009, Library Journal named Mann a “Mover and Shaker” for her work in Ewing, and for her dedication to tech-savvy programming.

“Laverne has the talent, experience and creativity needed to expand the Library’s programs and services to benefit the entire Cherry Hill community,” Mayor Chuck Cahn said. “The library is more than just books, it’s the heart of our town, and I am confident that Laverne’s energy and direction will allow it to grow and flourish moving forward.”

The Cherry Hill Public Library serves more than 32,000 cardholders and is supported in part by the Friends of the Library.

“We are excited about our Library’s future under Laverne’s leadership,” said Board President Diane Koury Alessi. “Laverne’s credentials are impressive, and we are proud to have her at the helm of the Cherry Hill Public Library.”
