The Cherry Hill East girls lacrosse team may be moving to the Olympic Patriot conference, but they will be bringing with them the same aggressive style of play that they relied on day in and day out while competing in the Olympic American conference for second year coach Katie Boyle.
They will also be bringing their four-year varsity starting midfielder Caitlin Delaney who was a first team All Conference and All South Jersey second team selection last season.
Delaney also played in the 2012 National High School Tournament for NJ South Team No. 1 and the Brine All American National Lacrosse Classic.
The Division 1 Sacred Heart University bound senior is on the ESPN 2013 Watch List.
At 5'9" and with excellent speed, Delaney is an imposing defensive presence on the field and had led her team last season with 57 draw controls, 48 caused turnovers and 54 ground balls.
But it is her scoring that the Cougars will really be relying on. She had 82 goals and 17 assists last season and has tallied 108 career goals so far. Not too bad for playing behind three 100+ goal scorers her first two years.
Look for East to improve upon last season’s 8–10 record and challenge Clearview, Seneca, Cherry Hill West and Kingsway in the Olympic Patriot behind the senior leadership of Caitlin Delaney and a young and determined Cougar squad.
This season should prove to be a move in the right direction for Cherry Hill East girls lacrosse.
