The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced the closure shortly after noon on Tuesday. Construction crews are conducting emergency repairs at the sinkhole. The sinkhole is located under the Conrail Bridge at mile postĀ 1.8.
The sinkhole reportedly developed near an inlet in the area. Crews will evaluate the sinkhole to determine the cause, then repair and repave the affected stretch of road. Motorists are being told to expect minor delays until the road reopens. The two left lanes on Route 70 westbound will remainĀ open.
