Cherry Hill East students propose making Cherry Hill a sanctuary city

Cherry Hill High School East senior Alon Goldfinger and junior Joshua Sodicoff asked Cherry Hill Township Council to consider adopting a sanctuary city policy at council’s meeting last Monday. The pair said a policy would help give a sense of security to local immigrants. Mayor Chuck Cahn responded, saying the township is not having any discussions about a sanctuary city policy.

Cherry Hill Police de-escalate situation after receiving call of a suicidal man with a handgun

Cherry Hill Police helped de-escalate a situation on Wednesday after receiving a report of a suicidal man with handgun. On Wednesday morning, police responded to the 1900 block of Olney Avenue after receiving a call about the man. Police were able to negotiate with the man and de-escalate the situation with non-lethal force.

Water testing nearly complete at Cherry Hill Public Schools

At Tuesday night’s Cherry Hill Board of Education work session meeting, board vice president Eric Goodwin reported the district had nearly finished testing all of the water outlets for lead. Goodwin said all water sources in the district, with the exception of the field house at Cherry Hill High School West, have been tested for lead. The district has shut off all water sources testing above the Environmental Protection Agency’s limit for lead of 15 parts per billion.

Cherry Hill Public Schools to use new schedule for high school PARCC testing

With the start of PARCC testing a little more than a month away in Cherry Hill Public Schools, Superintendent Joe Meloche talked about preparations for the 2017 assessment last week. The biggest change in Cherry Hill will be a new testing schedule for high school students, where all of the PARCC testing will take place in a three-day window from March 28 to March 30.
