Deptford council had a brief but full work session on Sept. 25 that included approval of an ordinance to fund township improvements, a discussion on upcoming events and the status of ongoing and upcoming projects for October.
The meeting kicked off with council’s unanimous passage of an ordinance that will appropriate $950,000 from the township capital improvement plan for various projects and the acquisitions they require. Other improvements that will be funded with the money were discussed later in the meeting.
“The repaving project for Princeton Boulevard is scheduled to begin, weather permitting, on Monday, Oct. 2,” said Township Manager Thomas Newman Jr. “(For) Lakebridge Drive, the plans have been submitted to the NJDOT (New Jersey Department of Transportation) for approval. Once we receive that approval, we will begin work on that project.”
Other resolutions passed at the meeting included a proclamation to paint the town pink for October in conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month; refund fees for a bingo and raffle application; and a grant tax exemption and refunds for a disabled veteran in lieu of property tax payments. The veteran’s name was not announced at the meeting.
October events discussed included a township-wide yard sale that was held on Sept. 30.
“I think I might have one,” Councilman Wayne Love said before the sale. “My garage is just getting bigger and bigger with stuff, and I can’t get in there. But I think a couple people asked about this and I just wanted to check in with it.”
Also discussed was a Red Cross blood drive at the township community center on Monday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 7 p.m., and the fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Andaloro Farm.
“We have other things coming up,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “The fall festival is right around the corner, right? And here we go right into November.”
