Washington Township man charged with stealing vehicle

Police remind residents to lock vehicles at night

A report of a suspicious vehicle led to the arrest of a Washington Township man on Aug. 1, according to the Washington Township Police Department.

Officer Steve Pinelli and K9 Rip responded to Aldeberan Drive on Aug. 1. Police dispatch received a call at approximately 9:57 p.m. from an alert resident reporting a suspicious parked car on the street, police said.

Pinnelli approached the vehicle on foot and startled the operator – later identified as an 18-year-old township man – exiting the car.

The officer observed the vehicle steering column was severely damaged and confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

The township man was charged with receiving stolen property and released on a summons, police said.

Three stolen Hyundai vehicles were recovered in Washington Township. One vehicle was reported stolen from Washington Township and two others were stolen from area towns. All three vehicles were unlocked when stolen.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information concerning these thefts or any auto thefts are asked to contact Detective Matt Franchi at (856) 589-0330 ext. 1143 or email [email protected].

All residents are reminded to call police at any time 24/7 to report suspicious persons, suspicious vehicles or suspicious activity at (856) 256-1212. Please lock vehicles at night.
