The Harrison Township Recreation Commission is hosting a series of bus trips in the fall and winter for active adults 55 and up in its programs.
The trips, in order of dates, are to the Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for Moses and Miracle of Christmas on Friday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Dec. 8, respectively, and a bus trip to New York City on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Each event will include a meal and there is a discount for kids ages 3 to 12. Residents can register for them on Eventbrite.
“It gives people a chance to see things they wouldn’t normally see otherwise,” said Recreation Coordinator Sharon Chew. “People wouldn’t normally drive themselves to Lancaster or New York, since it’s a long way from here.”
Each event’s price varies, and tickets are available for purchase now. The Oct. 6 trip to see Moses costs $140 each for adults and $90 each for kids, with an optional $10 meal voucher that will provide bonus food samples from the shops of Kettle Village, a shopping center where the group will meet after the show. The bus for that trip will depart from Ella Harris Park in Mullica Hill at 8 a.m. and return at 7 p.m.
The Miracle of Christmas trip has a later departure time at the park of 9 a.m., with a return at 8 p.m. Tickets for children at this event are also $90, with adult tickets at $145 each.
The New York City trip is for adults only and has two experiences from which to choose. Attendees can either see the Rockettes’ holiday show and explore the city for $130, with an optional $20 for a backstage pass, or they can merely explore the city for $60. That trip will also depart from Ella Harris Park at 9 a.m. and return at approximately 9 p.m.
The trips have been going on for almost two decades now, according to Chew.
“When I started in 2007,” she said, “the former head (of recreation) always did a New York (City) trip. So, I decided to do that and more. We have done visits to Ellis Island and the 9/11 Memorial in the past.”
