The concert will take place at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Cherry Hill beginning at 8 p.m.
This holiday season, the Greater South Jersey Chorus is honoring the many festive traditions that lend light to cold, wintry nights. GSJC’s winter concert, Season of Light, will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 8 p.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church in Cherry Hill.
“The choir is really digging deep into some spectacular music,” said GSJC artistic director Christopher B. Thomas. “Respighi’s Lauda per la Natività del Signore (Laud to the Nativity) is a stunning composition with colorful harmonies, delicate singing, and a beautiful woodwind and piano orchestration.”
Along with Respighi’s meditative Laud to the Nativity, GSJC will also showcase the radiant harmonies of Lampl’s Jerusalem, and celebratory Christmas and Chanukah favorites. The traditional flavor of this concert is balanced by a more modern flair as well.
“We’ve dedicated significant time to the season of Chanukah with two renowned Broadway musicians’ arrangements,” Thomas said. “You may know the names Jason Robert Brown and Stephen Schwarz from their music in Wicked, The Secret Garden, etc. These particular arrangements don’t stray far from the style that brought them to fame across the country.”
GSJC is an auditioned ensemble numbering more than 90 voices. The chorus is led by Thomas and accompanist Maximillian Esmus. Additionally, GSJC often partners with talented soloists and instrumentalists, as is the case with this season’s winter concert.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or on the chorus website, greatersouthjerseychorus.org. Admission is $20. Discounts are offered to groups of 15 or more with advance purchase.
