Cub Scout Pack 7045 – also known as Pack 45 – held its annual pancake breakfast on March 4 at the Mantua Masonic Lodge.

More than 100 people attended, according to pack leader Matthew Geserick, with more than 250 pancakes served. Another Mantua Cub Scout Pack, 83, and pack leaders helped with the event.

Mantua Cub Scout Pack 7045 had an excellent pancake breakfast with amazing participation from our Cub Scout Pack, troop 83 and leaders,” said Geserick. “This is a Cub Scout event; however, our troop scouts can also get service hours that go toward the rank they’re currently working for.”

The breakfast saw a surprise visit from Mantua Mayor Robert Zimmerman and committeewoman Eileen Lukens, who both stopped by to show their support for the Scouts, something Geserick said they have long done.

Thank you to the Masonic Lodge and Cub Scout pack leaders for their continued community and volunteer efforts and for the residents and families who attended to show their support,” said a post on the Mantua Facebook page.

The event, according to Geserick, did not make a huge profit, but to him, it was not about how much money was raised, but rather the time participants spent with both each other and the community.

We typically don’t make a huge profit,” he noted. “We consider this a FUNdraiser, meaning it’s more about connecting with friends, family, and the community. So, most of the proceeds cover our breakfast and anything extra would go toward our blue and gold dinner or family camps in the summer. Our big fundraisers are popcorn and camp cards.”

Cub Scouts range in age from kindergarten to fifth grade, then become full-fledged Scouts in the sixth through 12th grades.
