Lizzy Haddon Elementary to hold its 71st fall fair

Event to include auctions for activities with teachers

Celebrate the fall at Elizabeth Haddon Elementary’ 71st annual fall fair Friday, Oct. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m., at the school.

The event – organized by Elizabeth Haddon PTA members – is free, except for a $40 bracelet required for kids 4 and older to participate in activities.

While past fairs were typically held on Saturday morning, last year was the first time the event  was held on Friday afternoon to avoid conflicting with other weekend activities, something that was continued this year.

“We found that it made a nice model to be able to come, relax, have a nice dinner with the food trucks, not have to cook on a Friday night,” said Amanda Parlett, co-chair of the fair and a PTA member.

This year’s food trucks will include Beast of the Street, Just Fork It, Not Your Mama’s Tacos, Kona Ice and ice cream from Scoop DeVille. There will be pony rides and a petting zoo from 4 to 6 p.m. and a magic show at 7, along with mini-golf, a corn maze, balloon twister, pumpkin painting and a photo booth.

Raffle tickets will be on sale for auction items and experiences to have with teachers for   students at the elementary school. Drawings will be at 7:45.

“You might be having an ice cream sundae with your first grade teacher or doing a special project with your art teacher, or be principal for the day,” explained Parlett, who noted that the school’s principal, Gerry Bissinger, is well loved by students.

“One of the most favorite items that gets bid on is playing basketball or playing gaga in the gaga pit with Mr. B,” she said.

Parlett noted that the fall fair has often brought the community together, and while it’s geared to  families of the school’s students, the committee welcomes the at large.
