Letter to the editor: Resident concerned over sign at July 4 parade

Mary C. Kirk, of Haddonfield, writes that Fourth of July parade is not a time for unwelcoming signs

To theĀ Editor:

First, thank you for your coverage of our town; I love living here and enjoy reading about our many activities.

Because of a summer virus, my husband and I missed our Haddonfield Fourth of July parade and the pleasure of seeing our two little granddaughters in the parade with their decorated scooters. I was happy to hear that they loved being in the parade. I was disappointed, however, when I heard of a large sign carried in the parade. The sign claimed that there may be people who donā€™t like Haddonfield, but they ā€œdidnā€™t care, do you?ā€ Of course, people are welcome to express opinions, but it saddened me that adults would project, to me, a negative attitude. It seemed a most unwelcoming sign, especially to visitors to our town on a day we are celebrating our appreciation of our countryā€™s independence.
