Spend ‘Summer Nights’ with Grease at Plays & Players

There’s an odd syndrome associated with Grease. If the movie is on while you’re changing channels, you can’t help but stop, watch and — inevitably — sing along.

When you think about it, there’s not much not to like about Grease. The story takes place in the 1950s, a much simpler, less complicated time in the country’s history. The characters are iconic, laughable and lovable.

But there’s no kidding ourselves here. The music is what everyone loves.

With songs like “You’re the One That I Want,” “Greased Lightning” and “We Go Together,” it’s almost impossible to restrain yourself from joining in the fun. These are now staples heard sung during many a group road trip and practically any karaoke night — where some people probably should restrain themselves from singing.

The movie has achieved bonafide cult status, continuing to sell millions of DVDs worldwide. In fact, the popularity is still so intense that Paramount Pictures is releasing a special “Sing-Along” version of the film in select theaters around the country on July 8 — one night only. Currently, the closest cinema that will be showing it is in New York City.

You don’t have to be a Beauty School Drop Out or a Rock ’n’ Roll Party Queen to see Grease. Just drive your T-Bird to Haddonfield Plays and Players this July, and enjoy some fun Summer Nights.

Grease has a special preview show on Thursday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. Regular evening performances are July 16, 17, 23 24, 30, 31 and Aug. 5 and 6 at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are July 18, 25, and Aug. 1 at 2 p.m.

Haddonfield Plays and Players, located in Crows Woods, continues its season of quality entertainment with Biloxi Blues and West Side Story.
