Post 38 to host its 71st Last Man’s Dinner

By ROBERT LINNEHAN

For the past 70 years the American Legion Post 38 has honored the areas Veterans and current soldiers in its annual Last Man’s Dinner. The post announced that it will continue to do so for the 71st time as well.

The local American Legion post announced its 71st Last Man’s Dinner on Monday, April 4 at the Tavistock Country Club at 6 p.m. The first hour of the dinner is a “social” hour featuring a cash bar and the program will kick-off at 7 p.m.

Each year, the Last Man’s Club of Post 38 conducts this special event to honor our veterans who have served our country and our soldiers who are doing so today, representatives reported. The Last Man’s Club was organized for the following purposes: to preserve the memories of our wars, to pay fitting tribute to our departed comrades, to foster and perpetuate good fellowship and to eat, drink and be merry.

Post Commander Steve Pecorelli will emcee the event. The event will feature military honors, a special “POW/MIA White Table Remembrance Service,” the annual “Remembrance Service” honoring those members who have passed in the last year and performances by the “The Camden County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums.”

Attendees will receive a copy of the “2011 Last Man’s Dinner Program” which will include some of items previously included in the program. Post 38 welcomes local businesses to place ads in that program to help support the dinner and Post 38.

The speeches from a veteran of each war will be eliminated to shorten the length of the event.

The price is $36 per person which includes a prime-rib dinner and valet parking. For more information on tickets and ads for the program, call Tom Baird, Last Man’s Club Chair at 428–4070 or on his cell phone at 609–923–1442.
