The members of the Central Elementary School environmental club pitched in on Monday afternoon after school and helped members of the Master Gardeners of Camden County to finish two new rain gardens in front of the middle school.
Almost 20 members of middle school teacher Jennifer Gallogly’s club helped plant some indigenous plants at the garden to improve drainage in front of the school. The rain gardens are designed to soak up groundwater and distribute it back into the earth, as opposed to going down a stormwater drain.
These are the first two rain gardens to be installed in Haddonfield, Gallogly said Monday afternoon. Another will likely be installed in front of the Haddonfield Memorial High School.
The project was made possible with help from the county and Rutgers University.
