Tabernacle will hold its annual tree lighting at town hall on Friday, Dec 3, at 7 p.m., marking the return of an event canceled last year because of COVID.
The event is organized and sponsored by the Tabernacle Women’s Association, Tabernacle Historical Society, Tabernacle Home and School Association and the Tabernacle Recreation Committee. The tree for the event is donated from Russo’s Fruit & Vegetable Farm in the township, with refreshments and seating available.
Tabernacle Fire Department No. 1 and the EMS will also be on site if needed. In past years, the tree lighting has attracted more than 600 guests, according to the chairman of the recreation committee, Mark LeMire.
This year, the event will feature music and entertainment from three local Tabernacle schools: the Tabernacle Elementary School choir, Kenneth R. Olsen Middle School Hand Chime Ensemble and Seneca High School Choir. Santa will be in the gazebo.
LeMire made a point of recognizing volunteers who support the holiday tradition.
“It’s a great opportunity for all the volunteer groups to get together and start the celebration of the season,” he noted
Another holiday event is a house-decorating contest, for which sign-ups are available through Dec. 10. Judging will begin the week of Dec 13.
