The following release is from the Berlin Police Department.
The Berlin Police Department supports the positive promotion of awareness to people who may be diagnosed with an intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD).
People with an intellectual or developmental disability or a person at risk may need the response of a police officer for help or the assistance of emergency services. The Berlin Police Department is always training to enhance their response to better serve our community members. Today, we are developing a registry of family members, household members, or individuals visiting Berlin often in their lives who suffer from an intellectual or developmental disability or may be a person at risk.
An emergency contact, detailed physical descriptions, known routines, actions likely to invoke a negative response, common attractions, and medical and mental health diagnoses are some of the information that would be gathered. This information will greatly assist responding police officers when time is critical in communicating and handling a potential emergency situation which best suits a person who is registered.
The information provided to the Berlin Police Department will be 100 percent voluntary and 100 percent confidential.
To participate, visit https://www.berlinpolice.net/developmental-disabilities and fill out all areas. In return, a police officer will reach out to you to follow up and complete your registration. Any questions may be emailed to [email protected].
