Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday night near Cherry Hill High School West’s home football game, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Acting Cherry Hill Police Chief Larry Robb.
According to a release issued from the county Prosecutor’s office, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:47 p.m. in the residential area of Fulton and Weld Streets, in close proximity to West’s home field as the Lions were taking on Bridgeton.
Detectives located eight shell casings on scene. There are currently no confirmed victims or suspects.
Superintendent Joseph Meloche issued a statement to the community on Saturday morning, which read, in part, “upon notification of the incident that evening, our administrators and Campus Police Officers at the stadium immediately closed the gates to the stadium and no one was permitted to enter. The Cherry Hill Police recommended that we continue the game.
“The game continued and concluded without incident. The health and safety of our students and community members at school events is our top priority. I would like to thank the Cherry Hill Police Department, our Campus Police Officers, and our district staff
members for their quick action to maintain safety, calm and order.”
