Harrison Township School District’s latest board of education meeting on Sept. 27 addressed the shortage of school bus drivers and the approval of aide and teacher resignations.
Because of the driver shortage, the board approved an Interlocal Agreement with Kingsway Regional School District to borrow buses and share drivers for the 2021-’22 school year.
The board also approved the resignations of various aides and teachers, contract extensions for multiple substitute teachers and the homeschooling of six students during the academic year, per parent request.
Many teachers and faculty were also permitted to attend virtual and out-of-district workshops and certification programs, including “What It Means to Behave.” The board also acknowledged planned safety drills conducted in the first month of the school year. District-wide, there was one shelter-in-place drill, three fire drills and two lockdown drills, with both Harrison Township and Pleasant Valley schools participating.
The board agenda addendum approved more contract and employment extensions for substitutes and aides and allowed more faculty to attend workshops in October. Epic Health Services was chosen to provide substitute nursing staff on an as-needed basis during the school year.
The last portion of the addendum approved two field trips for pre-K classes in the district: to Duffield’s Farm Market in Sewell and to Field of Dreams Park in West Deptford.
The next board of education meeting will be held on Oct. 25, at 7 p.m., at Pleasant Valley School.
