Obituary: William “Carson” McCullough

Army veteran, former resident in Haddonfield died last week.

Carson McCullough, of Ocean City, N.J, and formerly of Philadelphia, Haddonfield, and Naples, Fla., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 28.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Jean Clarke McCullough, and second wife of 21 years, Joan Lindstrom McCullough. He is also survived by his children, Lorraine MacFeeters (Richard) of Haddonfield, Linda McCool (George) of Blue Bell, Pa., and Russell McCullough (Lori) of Horsham, Pa., as well as his grandchildren John (Rebecca), Lyndsay (Evan), Robert (Amanda), Rebecca, Christopher, Matthew, Kristin (Levi), Michelle, Scott, Brendan, and his great-grandchildren Emily and William.

Carson grew up in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, graduating from Northeast High School in 1943, followed by service in the United States Army during World War II. After his discharge from military service in 1945, he completed an engineering degree in 1950 at Drexel University. Following his education, he worked for several engineering firms before establishing multiple independent electrical manufacturing sales companies until retiring in his seventies.

He was an active member of the Haddonfield, Ocean City and Naples communities. His lifelong passion for boating led him to become involved in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was also an avid bowler, competing in various leagues, the Haddonfield 65 Club, and contributed to the church community as a Deacon. Most evenings he would be found watching the sunset, marveling at the way the world keeps on spinning, an engineer until the end.

A viewing will be held at the Godfrey Funeral Home, 809 Central Avenue, Ocean City, N.J. 08226, on Wednesday, July 7, to begin at 10 a.m., with a Memorial Service to begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Locustwood Cemetery, 1500 Route 70 West, Cherry Hill. There will be a gathering afterward in the Haddonfield area.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Carson’s name be made to the Hospice service or charity of your choice. For condolences to the family, visit www.godfreyfuneralhome.com.
