Elizabeth Haddon Fourth Graders attend Haddonfield Farmers Market

Just after school was out for the year, Elizabeth Haddon fourth graders celebrated all that is fresh, seasonal and local at the Haddonfield Farmers Market. The student volunteers helped sell the most recent harvest from the award-winning Elizabeth Haddon garden, created in 2011 to encourage agricultural and environmental awareness, healthy eating habits, and outdoor curriculum enhancement. This is the first time students have showcased the fruits of their labor at the Market, hoping to raise funds for the Elizabeth Haddon PTA and school garden program.

The experience also provided hands-on lessons in math, entrepreneurship and communication and fostered an appreciation for the local community. Students, teachers and parents at Elizabeth Haddon hope to bring their garden bounty back to the Haddonfield Farmers Market later this summer and again in the fall. They believe that building and maintaining a school garden and interacting with local businesses can bring together an entire community, helping everyone to stay personally connected to their food and each other.
