Haddonfield college students’ accomplishments from 2014 to April 2015

The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce that more than 4,700 students qualified for the fall 2014 dean’s list. Sarah Goldfield of Haddonfield was named to the dean’s list.

Molly Tomlinson of Haddonfield has been named to Millersville University of Pennsylvania’s dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester. The 1,465 students named to Millersville University’s fall 2014 dean’s list earned a semester grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher and attempted at least 12 credits of course work.

Nathaniel Thompson, a Denison University student from Haddonfield, is studying with the Council on International Educational Exchange Program in Spain for the 2015 spring semester. Thompson, a member of the Denison class of 2016, will continue to receive full credit toward a Denison degree while pursuing diverse research or academic opportunities.

Taylor Renzi, a resident of Haddonfield, was honored for academic achievement by being named to the dean’s list at Delaware Valley College for the fall 2014 semester.

Jessica Bergman and Melanie Vasso, both of Haddonfield, made the dean’s list at James Madison University for the fall 2014 semester. Bergman is a senior majoring in nursing — BSN and Vasso is a junior majoring in biology — BS.

Raymond Schlitt of Haddonfield has graduated from Bucknell University, which conferred bachelor’s degrees to students who completed their graduation requirements during the fall semester. Raymond graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. A dean’s list student, he was a member of the wrestling team. Raymond is the son of Mark and Beth Schlitt and a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School.

William Reich has been named to the fall 2014 dean’s list at St. Bonaventure University. The French major is from Haddonfield.

Seton Hall University is pleased to announce that the following students qualified for the fall 2014 dean’s list, Peter Gallagher, Quinn Laidig and Louis Pera of Haddonfield. To make the dean’s list, students must have at least a 3.4 GPA and can get no grade lower than a C.

Maxfield Haubrich, HMHS graduate of the class of 2014, has made the dean’s list for fall 2014. Haubrich is enrolled in the Music Industry and Technology program at Mercy College in Dobb’s Ferry, N.Y.

Molly McGovern of Haddonfield has been named to the dean’s list and earned honors for the fall semester of the 2014–2015 academic year at the University of New Hampshire.

Margaret Borden of Haddonfield was among more than 1,425 students named to the University of Scranton dean’s list, which recognizes students for academic excellence during the 2014 fall semester. A student must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better with a minimum number of credit hours to make the Dean’s List. Borden is a senior nursing major in the University’s Panuska College of Professional Studies.

Siera Carusone, a first year anthropology major, Abigail Finkenauer, a sophomore biological science major, and Nicole Bull, a senior anthropology major, were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester at the University of Vermont.

Andreas Rebmann of Haddonfield has made the dean’s list for fall 2014 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. A graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School, Rebmann is now a freshman at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. where he is majoring in chemical engineering. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was named as one of the top 10 engineering colleges in the United States by USA Today.

Samantha M. Verzella of Haddonfield was named to the president’s list at Clemson University for the fall 2014 semester. Verzella is majoring in language and international trade. To be named to the president’s list, a student must achieve a 4.0 grade-point average.

Michael Lacatena, majoring in accounting, Constance Guistwhite, majoring in English, and Lauren Fell, majoring in interdisciplinary health services, all of Haddonfield earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2014 semester at Saint Joseph’s University.

Gregory Robert Mumford of Haddonfield, whose major is management, has been named to the dean’s list at Clemson University for the fall 2014 semester.

Kelsey Gaier and Nathan McMullen of Haddonfield have been named to the Wake Forest University’s Dean’s List for the fall 2014 semester. Students who achieve a 3.4 grade point average and no grade below a “C” were named to the list.

Stevenson University congratulates business administration major Daniel Halla of Haddonfield for being named to the dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester. Students who earn the dean’s list honor must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade point average of a 3.50 or better.

Gregory Lee of Haddonfield made the dean’s list at Washington College for the fall 2014 semester. He was recognized for academic excellence and achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester.

Spencer Ng of Haddonfield, a senior biochemistry major at Widener University, was named to the president’s list for the fall 2014 semester at Widener.

Emerson College student Aaron Dye of Haddonfield has been named to the Emerson College dean’s list for the fall 2014 semester. Dye is majoring in film production. The requirement to make Emerson’s dean’s list is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

Students from the Haddonfield area have been named to the University of Delaware Dean’s List for the Fall 2014 semester. Students include: Kacie Brandenburg, Devin Bulger, Rachel Derosa, Brad Donohue, Christine Labrosse, Benjamin Lefler, Victoria McErlean, Victoria McErlean, Shannon Riley, Nicholas Ruggiero, Jacques Samaha and Kyle Wade.

The following Lafayette College students were named to the dean’s list for outstanding academic achievement during the fall 2014 semester: William Ritchings, Lara Mary Ruggerio and Stacy Widerman, all of Haddonfield and graduates of Haddonfield Memorial High School. Each student achieved at least a 3.60 semester grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Lauren Acerbo, a member of the class of 2015 from Haddonfield, has been named to the fall 2014 dean’s list at Loyola University Maryland. In order to qualify for the dean’s list at Loyola, a student must have a GPA of at least 3.5 with a minimum of 15 credits.

Carly McMichael has been named to the 2014 Fall Semester dean’s list at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. To be named to the list, a student must obtain a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Freshman English major at Le Moyne, McMichael is from Haddonfield.

Austin Staiano of Haddonfield has been granted the Trustees’ Scholarship to study at Alvernia University in the fall. Staiano is currently a Haddon Heights High School senior.

Ashlee Steinberger, a resident of Haddonfield, was named to the dean’s list at Fairfield University for the fall 2014 semester.

The following students have been recognized for their academic achievement during the fall 2014 semester at Colgate University: Jessica Blau, a International Relations-undeclared major, and Matthew Porter, a Biology major. Both are from from Haddonfield and a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School.

Lauren Crawford, a senior Civil Engineering major at Widener University from Haddonfield, recently spent Spring Break in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to assist with a sustainability project concerning food security. Crawford was one of nine students enrolled in the spring course at Widener titled Honduras: Languages and Cultures.
While in Honduras, the Widener cohort assisted Zamorano University in building a mini farm at a nearby orphanage. The Widener participants contributed rakes, shovels, machetes and pickaxes to the operation. Students will continue to support the farm by raising money for electrical controls for a pump for irrigation using the well on the property.
Once completed, the farm will allow the orphanage to raise chickens and grow grains, corn, vegetables and fruit to feed the children, and excess will be sold in the Zamorano grocery store, so that the orphanage can buy meat and other items with the profits. In the future, additional model mini-farms will be set up across Honduras.

Haddonfield resident Brittany Boyer spent spring break serving others through James Madison University’s Alternative Spring Break Program. Boyer, a junior accounting major, traveled to San Juan, Texas to volunteer with LUPE (La Union del Pueblo Entero).
The student-led ASB trips took place from March 7–14. Each trip focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness, in a specific region. Almost 300 students embarked on 23 spring break trips around the country and world. The students spent the week living simply, focused on service in their destination community. but also on teamwork and reflection within their group.

Aysen Gerlach, a Haddonfield resident and a student at the prestigious Pratt Institute, was among more than 1,000 students who made the president’s list in the fall 2014 semester.

Brendan Cook of Haddonfield participated in the second annual 48-hour Playwriting Competition at Champlain College. Students met at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 20 to receive a prompt and spent the next day writing a 10-minute play. Writers met their actors on Sunday morning to rehearse, and the plays were performed at the Playwriting Competition Showcase on Sunday night. The first place winners were awarded $500, the second place winners received $250 and the third place winners won $150.

Haddonfield Native Mike Walker Participates in Leadership Academy. Mike Walker, a Haddonfield native, junior Finance major in the School of Business at Ithaca College and member of the men’s lacrosse team, is learning valuable leadership skills in Ithaca College’s Leadership Academy, the nation’s premier Division III sports leadership development program. The Leadership Academy, led by associate professor Greg Shelley, instills traits and philosophies applicable in sport participation as well as professional and personal endeavors. Approximately 300 student-athletes representing all 27-varsity sports are participating in the program. Walker will receive special recognition upon completion of the program, and undergo personal development applicable after graduation from Ithaca College.

Alexandra Marshall of Haddonfield was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Marshall was initiated at The College of New Jersey.

Molly Tomlinson, from Haddonfield, has been recognized at Millersville University’s 57th Annual Undergraduate Honors and Awards Convocation on Saturday, April 25. Tomlinson was awarded the Search for Excellence Scholarship.

Christine Wolf of Haddonfield was inducted into Saint Joseph’s University’s chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society for business, on Sunday, April 19. Induction into BGS is the highest academic honor a business student can receive in an undergraduate and graduate level program in a school accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.

A day marking great achievements and new beginnings, Colleen Shea of Haddonfield, was among the more than 1,800 University of Dayton students receiving their degree during 2015 spring undergraduate commencement ceremonies Sunday, May 3.

Eight Christ the King Regional School eighth grade students received Camden Catholic High School merit scholarships with a valued worth of $130,000 over a four year enrollment period. All Merit Scholarship Recipients must score in the 10 percent in the High School placement test at Camden Catholic and also undergo a rigorous interviewing process.

The following Christ the King students received merit scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $6,000 annually: Maxwell Baier, Thomas Mc Bride, Annie Miles, Erin O’Callghan, Simon Phillips, Annie Skiles, Lisa Vigilante and Danielle Wysocki.
