Washington Twp. school counselors honored

Corrine Arenz and Briana Baud were among six school counselors honored on May 7 by Rowan University during the university’s Counseling in Educational Settings awards ceremony.

Washington Township school counselors Corrine Arenz (Whitman Elementary) and Briana Baud (Bunker Hill Middle School) were among six school counselors honored on May 7 by Rowan University during the university’s Counseling in Educational Settings awards ceremony. The six – including Arenz and Baud, Claudia Wolf, Kristina Weiss, Kelly Goldstein and Rachel Sole – were named as recipients of the Zeta Pi Distinguished Alumni Award.

Zeta Pi is the Rowan chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the Academic and Professional Counseling International Honor Society.

“Individually, they are all change agents in their communities,” Rowan University education professor Kara Ieva said. “Collectively, during this pandemic, they are #NJSchoolCounselorStrong by selflessly giving their time and emotional energy to support others. I am proud to call them all colleagues.”

Ieva has been working with Washington Township Director of District School Counseling Jennifer Grimaldi to unify the state’s school counselors during COVID-19, a group of nearly 350 counselors from among 584 school districts in New Jersey.

“These township counselors are true leaders and advocates in the field of school counseling,” Grimaldi said. “They have volunteered their time during remote learning to partner with Ieva from Rowan University to hold Facebook webinars by grade level on a weekly basis. They cover pertinent information related to tele-counseling and how that translates now in our new normal. This is the reason Ieva recognized their contributions and I fully support and am proud of their endeavors in the field.”
