Albert E. Smith has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Kennedy Health Board of Directors effective Jan. 1. Previously the Board’s Vice Chairman, Smith is also a member of the Kennedy University Hospital Board of Trustees and served as its chairman from 2007 to 2012. Additionally, Smith chairs the Kennedy Health Alliance Advisory Committee, and Kennedy’s Professional Medical Management Board, as well serving on various board committees throughout his tenure.
A Kennedy Board member for 30 years, Smith is the retired President of Canon Financial Services (CFS) Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon. He had also served as Executive Vice President with Fidelity Bank & Trust Company of New Jersey (now Bank of America).
Along with serving as a Kennedy board member since 1986, Smith has been a member of the Executive Advisory Board for Rutgers University School of Business for more than 20 years, and a member of its School of Nursing Executive Board for the past two. A Certified Public Accountant since 1979, Smith holds Fellowship in both the American Society of CPAs and the New Jersey Society of CPAs.
In 2003, Smith was honored for his philanthropic work with the Goodwill Industries of Southern New Jersey Helms Award. He served as Vice Chairman of the South Jersey March of Dimes from 1986 to 1991 and was the organization’s WalkAmerica Chairman in 1986.
Smith is a member of the NJHA Council on Hospital Governance, which works to enhance the abilities of New Jersey hospital trustees to fulfill their roles and responsibilities and improve the health status of the communities they serve. Smith and his wife, Meral, reside in Haddonfield.
