Township council will host its fourth annual food truck festival from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at 100 Mount Laurel Road.
Parking will be available at 10000 and 15000 Midlantic Drive and all of Walt Whitman Avenue will be closed to traffic. There will be no parking allowed at the municipal complex.
The annual festival began in September 2021 and featured 17 food trucks, two breweries and a winery. This year’s event include 20 vendors, wineries, five breweries, free kids’ activities, live entertainment and representatives from community organizations.
At a recent council meeting, Township Manager Meredith Riculfy encouraged residents to come out for the festival.
” … We hope to see everybody there …” she said.
Also on hand will be House of Cupcakes, a bakery that features more than 30 flavors of cupcakes, including Boston cream pie, chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter cup. The Cha-Yen food truck will offer Asian-inspired desserts that include shaved ice, freshly brewed Bubble Tea and Thai ice cream rolls.
The Latin Bites food truck will sell Puerto Rican and Cuban-based cuisines such as alcapurrias, a plantain patty filled with beef, and shredded flank steak known as ropa vieja.Â
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month – which continues through Oct. 15 – the Spirit of San Juan food truck will feature authentic Puerto Rican food, including empanadas, maduros, tostones and specialty sandwiches. The Old San Juan sandwich, a local favorite, consists of slow-roasted pork on flattened green plantains topped with ketchup and garlic mayo.
Township departments will also be in attendance at the festival, including the fire department and EMS. Performing will be the FM Band, which brings a modern twist to its performances with unique renditions of popular hits and timeless classics.
Councilwoman Karen Cohen is a fan of the group.
“I’m very excited to listen to (the band) and there will also be a lot of events for kids,” she said.
Activities will include face painting, mechanical rides, a petting zoo and giveaways. Adults can choose selections from local wineries, and a variety of local, crafted brews, will be available, including products from Bout The Hops Brewery, a township-based microbrewery.
