Evesham Township is inviting residents with an interest in local habitats, nature and the regional ecosystem to help with its BIOBLITZ project on Saturday.
The township will ask participants to use its iNaturalist app to capture nature around them that day. All participants – whether in their own yards or at one of the township parks – must be safe and respectful while taking photos of the wildlife they observe.
Residents will then upload the information to the iNaturalist app to build a better understanding of Evesham’s wildlife. The iNaturalist is a free online database where the public can get help identifying the species they see and also contribute scientific data used by amateurs and professionals worldwide to better understand Earth’s biodiversity.
Links to register for virtual tutorials will be available today, as will additional information for the BIOBLITZ project, on the township website. Stations with local naturalists will also be set up at the Black Run Preserve to provide help on using the wildlife apps and provide information about the flora, fauna, and history of the Pinelands.
BIOBLITZ is part of Evesham’s Sustainable Jersey Grant Program, in partnership with the Pinelands Preservation Alliance.
