Community House party kicks off fall season for nonprofit

The Community House of Moorestown will host its fifth annual house party at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.

“This event is a true labor of love, and we could not put it on without the support of our sponsors and partners,” said Kathryn Distler, member of the board of trustees for the nonprofit Community House. “They really go above and beyond every year to help us put on a great event, and their ongoing support of the Community House and our mission means so much.”

Food, music and drinks on the front lawn will be part of the night’s festivities, along with cornhole and other games on the patio and indoor screens so guests can watch football. Exclusive alcohol sponsor Moorestown Super Buy Rite Liquors – which moved to town earlier this year – will provide beer, wine and spirits and Summit Catering has created a special menu for the event.

“While the house party is a major fundraiser for us, with all event proceeds going directly back into the Community House, it also gives us as a board the opportunity to welcome people into the house and help the town kick off the fall season,” Distler explained. “At its core, the Community House is a gathering place, and that’s what this event is all about – getting together with friends and neighbors on the lawn, meeting new people and having fun.”

Last year’s party raised more than $18,000 in crucial funds for the nearly 100-year-old establishment.

“It’s a casual, affordable night out and something people really look forward to, so it’s nice seeing the same faces come back here year after year, while also knowing this has become a popular event for people new to town looking to see what the Community House is all about and start making those connections,” Distler noted.

“It’s a really great opportunity for people to catch up with friends and make new friends.”

There’s a lot happening at the Community House: new Executive Director Pam Henshall and the state’s first education-based microbrewery, coming soon to the Community House pool space. But the house party adds an extra kick to the fall and winter seasons.

“The house party year after year is such a fun event,” Distler said. “People are so happy to gather together after being away for the summer… It’s really about (the) community coming together for the purpose of having fun.”

Having grown up with the experience of the Community House, Distler is honored to support the nonprofit and what it offers Moorestown residents.

“With everything going on with the Community House, there are so many reasons to be excited and everyone has memories,” she pointed out. “The Community House is so many things to so many different people, and we’re excited to shepherd it into its next 100 years, to continue to help people make memories, to continue to serve as an essential gathering place that fosters community.”
