Camden County recently broke ground on two significant roadway improvement projects worth a combined $2.3 million in Berlin Borough and Winslow Township.
For Berlin, a $1.6-million project has begun on Jackson Road that spans the White Horse Pike and Route 73. The work includes road striping, milling, paving, enhancements to stormwater infrastructure and the installation of handicap ramps and adjacent sidewalks.
The project is scheduled to continue until January, weather permitting, with a full road closure in place during work hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A $650,000 milling and paving project in Winslow is underway on East Fleming Pike and involves the section between White Horse Pike and South Egg Harbor Road. A partial westbound road closure was implemented from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily through Aug. 9.
“These two projects were another investment in improving our county’s vital infrastructure,” said Commissioner Al Dyer, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Maintaining our roadways in top condition is a priority for the board of commissioners and is crucial for the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors who travel these routes daily.”
The public works department is responsible for maintaining more than 1,200 miles of county roadways, 50 bridges and several dams. Its role includes enhancing safety for motorists and pedestrians through highway projects and regular road maintenance, including pothole repairs, street sweeping, grass cutting and storm drainage upkeep.
The Lindenwold-department has personnel on call 24/7.
