‘Look at them go’

A kindergartener Oksana at Holly Glen Elementary School stood at ready as the school held its first Cereal Box Domino Run last month.

And when the countdown of 10 reached one, the student pushed the first box of Berry Crunch, which fell into the box of Lucky Charms and so on. It set in motion the domino of almost 1,500 cereal boxes collected that were set up throughout the halls of the school.

“Look at them go,” one student shouted.

The domino took a matter of minutes as the final boxes were knocked down in the gymnasium to a roar of applause from the students and staff. Mayor Greg Wolfe, Council Vice President Don Heverly and Director of Community Affairs Donna Park were on hand to watch the cereal fall.

“A few weeks ago, our school set out to collect 400 boxes of cereal to donate to our local food pantry,” said Pam Capasso, explaining the idea she and Amy Sumek came up with. “Our students and staff went beyond our expectations and collected (close to 1,500) boxes of cereal.”

All the cereal boxes were donated to a local food pantry.
