Fore Samaritan: Nonprofit hosts annual golf tournament

Drive FORE! A Good Cause supports the organization’s comprehensive family of services

Samaritan will host its 2024 Drive FORE! A Good Cause annual golf tournament at Little Mill Country Club in Marlton on Monday, June 24.

The 18-hole, scramble-format tournament will begin with registration at 10 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 11:15. All spots for golfing are already filled, but there is a dinner-only ticket option available for $100 a person to those who want to support Samaritan by attending the event’s award reception in the late afternoon, once all golfers have completed their rounds.

There will also be on-course contest opportunities and a 50/50. For complete details, visit www.SamaritanNJ.org/Golf. All proceeds from the event will support the organization’s comprehensive family of services.

“It’s an event that has a great history, not just as a support for Samaritan, but it’s just a really feel-good, community event,” noted Chris Rollins, chief development officer of Samaritan. “We have a loyal group of players and sponsors, and especially committee members, who have been involved with this tournament for a very, very long time.”

An online auction offering exclusive rounds of golf, sports tickets and other prizes will also be featured at the tournament, allowing golfers – as well as those unable to attend – the opportunity to bid on a variety of items. It will open at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 17, but pre-registration is available online. Sponsorship opportunities for the event are available through Wednesday, June 5.

“There’s a palpable spirit among our attendees,” Rollins observed, “and I think it comes from a couple of things: One is that there’s a very, very good chance that almost everybody there has been directly or indirectly touched by Samaritan’s care … Not only is it a great day to come and play golf and enjoy the camaraderie and the feeling of doing something meaningful, but it’s a way, I think, for a lot (of people) to give back, whether that’s their time, their treasure, to an organization that’s touched their family.

“I think for those that haven’t been touched directly or indirectly, they get what we do,” Rollins added. “They understand the community benefit that we provide, they understand the importance of this particular piece of this otherwise giant health-care system in our country, and the fact that we are devoted to this charitable mission and the care that we provide for the community that we honor and serve.”
