The Harrison Township recreation commission is partnering with the Dance Factory in Glassboro to bring two weeks of kids’ dance classes to the Ella Harris Park pavilion in June and July.
“We’ve been doing this with the Dance Factory now for around 15 years,” said Recreation Coordinator Sharon Chew. “Stacey Sanitate teaches the classes and has been doing dancing at the Dance Factory for 30 years.”
Each group of classes will have its own unique theme. From Monday, June 17, to Thursday, June 20, it will be In My Swiftie era, with an emphasis on hip-hop beats and dancing in the style of Taylor Swift. The week will conclude with a live performance for parents.
The second group of classes will be themed to “Beauty and the Beast,” with a focus on dancing to the show’s music. It will coincide with the township summer theater camp’s performance of the same musical.
Participants in the dance classes will also get the chance to perform in the theater camp’s final performance at Clearview High School on Thursday, July 11, at 6 p.m. Crafts based on each camp’s theme will be included.
Participants in both week-long dance sessions will be split into two age groups, 3 to 5 and 6 to 9. Times will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. for the younger kids and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the older group.
The program requires online registration at SignUpGenius.com, where information on pricing can be found. Each age group will have a maximum of 20 kids, with some slots already filled. For other information, call the recreation commission at (856) 223-8777.
“The kids all love it,” Chew said of the dance program. “The little ones love to dance, they love to dress up and like the chance to dress up like Taylor Swift and “Beauty and the Beast.”
