Eluding police
A Medford Township police officer was on routine patrol at 1:43 a.m. Feb. 9 in the Stokes Business District when a black 2024 Lexus IF350 was observed traveling in a parking lot of a closed business.
Upon exiting the business parking lot, the vehicle began traveling at a high rate of speed on McKendimen Road where the officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. As a result of this attempt, the vehicle allegedly increased speed fleeing from the motor vehicle stop.
Officers were able to obtain the vehicle’s registration during this interaction and later responded to the vehicle owner’s residence. As a result of the investigation, a 21-year-old Shamong man was charged with eluding police, speeding and reckless driving. He was processed and released.
Crash
Police along with members of the Medford Township Fire and Rescue Departments responded to the intersection of Route 70 and Jones Road for a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles with the traffic light standard impacted and lying across the roadway at 7:03 p.m. on Feb. 8.
The on-scene investigation determined that a 75-year-old Southampton woman was operating a 2023 Nissan Rogue east on Route 70. The woman attempted to make a left turn into the entrance of Sharps Run Plaza when she collided with a 2014 Ford Explorer, driven by a Hainesport 63-year-old man, traveling west on Route 70 as it traveled through the intersection.
The man’s vehicle left the roadway and collided with a traffic light standard, which fell and caused the westbound lane of Route 70 to be shut down for a period of time to allow crew to complete the required repairs.
The man was transported to Virtua Hospital in Mount Holly for additional medical treatment for complaint of pain in the head, chest and hand. The woman reported chest pain, but refused medical treatment on scene.
The Medford Township Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
