Small group organizes fundraiser for Aja Dunn and family

Aja Dunn was injured in March and is unable to work

A small group in Mantua will host a fundraiser Saturday called A Day of Music and Fun to Help a Family in Need to benefit resident Aja Dunn and her family.

The event will take place at 2 p.m. on a farm at 755 Bridgeton Pike in Sewell.

Dunn is a mother of two who’s been out of work since March after a car accident with her daughter Niovi. While her child walked away unscathed, Dunn suffered nerve damage in areas of her back and has been unable to work.

She is waiting to receive SSI disabilities.

“She got clobbered in the rear-end collision in March,” said Greg Wright, a close friend of Dunn’s and the event’s organizer. “There’s no income coming in for them and it’s been a real struggle. There’s a father, too, but he has issues of his own where he can’t help.

“I have tried helping her and she has neighbors helping her, too, but we can only do so much,” he added. “If by July 1 she doesn’t get any more help, she could lose her house.”

According to a release about the benefit, Dunn has had a successful hairdressing career, but since her accident, she can’t stand for extended periods of time. She   attends therapy three times a week for two to three hours.

All proceeds from the fundraiser – which will feature food, beer, non-alcoholic refreshments and live music – will go to Dunn and her family. There will also be an auction of items such as a laptop and telescope and a 50/50 raffle.

Admission for the event is $25 and tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite. To  help with the fundraiser, contact Wright by clicking on the contact link of the  Eventbrite page.

“We’re looking for donations to help a family in need,” said Wright, “and provide a normal life for them as much as possible.”
