The Jackson Road Bridge over Birchwood Lake is back open following the completion of Burlington County’s Bridge Replacement Project.
The bridge reopened on Monday, May 1, after workers from the Burlington County Division of Roads and Bridges finished striping the pavement on the span and removed the concrete barriers blocking traffic.
The entire span was reconstructed and repaved after an inspection revealed unsafe conditions to the wood structure of the bridge.
Most of the work on the replacement project was performed by skilled workers from Burlington County Department of Public Works Construction Services Division. The in-house construction team is made up of New Jersey Building and Construction Trades members who are hired by the county for small and medium-sized construction projects. The workers include pipe fitters, electricians, carpenters, masons and other construction specialists.
Work by the utility companies to relocate their wires along the bridge is still pending but can be completed with intermittent temporary closures coordinated between the utilities and township.
“Our construction and road teams finished their work and we saw no reason to burden the public any further,” said Burlington County Engineer Joseph Brickley.
The bridge is one of more than 400 bridges and 700 culverts the county maintains, along with more than 500 miles of roads.
