Warning alerts of a potential tornado, strong winds and severe thunderstorms started coming through late afternoon on April 1 after a mild sunny day.

The National Weather Service and the Cinnaminson Office of Emergency Management are currently assessing the damage.

Fire officials urge the public not to move past caution tape or cones to get down a street or approach any type of down wire.

PSE&G has multiple tree and line crews around town working to restore power. Cinnaminson Township Public Works crews are working to cut down and remove fallen trees, according to the fire officials.

Cinnaminson police have received reports of independent contractors wearing high-visibility vests going door-to-door asking if homeowners need any tree or roof service.

“If they don’t have a Cinnaminson Township Solicitor Permit, they are not authorized to solicit in our township,” Police Chief Rich Calabrese said. “Please be careful in contracting any company that solicits your business after a major storm. There are a lot of legitimate businesses that want to help and there are some that take advantage of your situation.”

All solicitors must register with the Cinnaminson Township Police Department. Each authorized person will be issued a solicitor’s permit with their photograph from the police department.

All suspected violations of the township ordinance should be reported immediately to the department’s non-emergency number at 856-829-6666.

More details, including the path length and path width, will soon be available. There have also been confirmed tornados in Delaware and Jackson Township, Monmouth County, according to the National Weather Service.
