Distinguished recitalist, Timothy Schwarz, will be presenting an exciting and diverse program of music for solo violin on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, 3 p.m., at the Harrison Township Historical Society’s historic Richwood Academy Cultural Center. Dr. Schwarz is Assistant Professor and Head of Strings at Rowan University.
Since his solo debut with the legendary Philadelphia Orchestra at age nine, Timothy Schwarz has had a brilliant career as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and teacher. Praised for his energetic performances and extraordinary technique, he regularly performs throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
His teaching skills have earned him master class and residency invitations at prestigious institutions around the world. Next year he will be serving as Visiting Professor of Performance at the London School of Music.
“We are excited and honored to be able to include Dr. Schwarz’ recital in our Fall program series,” noted the Society’s president, Robert Schumann, “and the Academy offers a warm and intimate setting for this wonderful afternoon of music.”
The afternoon’s concert offers a fascinating mix of old European masters such as Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn, and new and vibrant works by living American composers. Included in the program will be contemporary Indian American composer Reena Esmail’s Darshan (written in an Indian Raga form), Jessie Montgomery’s Rhapsody, and Tango-influenced C Minor Jam by Joseph Goodrich.
“I believe music is one of the most powerful and least understood forces of the universe,” said Dr. Schwarz. “Anyone who truly listens will ultimately be transformed by the music they hear.”
“Timothy Schwarz in Concert” takes place at the Richwood Academy Cultural Center, a historic schoolhouse built in 1870 located at 836 Lambs Road, Richwood, NJ. There is no admission fee; free tickets are available at the society’s public Facebook page. The program will also be live-streamed and archived on Facebook for future viewing. The Society is also currently featuring a new exhibition at Old Town Hall Museum, 62 South Main St., Mullica Hill, commemorating the one-year anniversary of the tornado the tore through Gloucester County in 2021. Described as “history worth seeing while you have the chance,” “Tornado” is currently on view Saturdays and Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m. through Dec. 4, 2022, and there is no admission charge.
