‘A nice day out’

Township expects about 300 people for its annual luncheon

For the second time this year, the township will hold a senior luncheon on Nov. 7 to give back to older residents in the community, some of whom have spent most of their lives in Deptford.

“It’s twice a year and happens in the spring and fall,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “It is our way of giving back to our 55-and-over community. There will be food and entertainment and it’s a nice day out.”

According to Medany, about 300 people are expected at the luncheon, including high-profile residents such as Medany himself, members of council, township administrators and the chief of police. There will be speeches, but the mayor said the event “is not about the speeches,” but rather the senior citizens who call the township home.

Prizes from township businesses will be awarded in a raffle. The venue, Auletto’s Caterers, is popular in the community for hosting many township events, including school district celebrations. The seven-decade-old restaurant and grounds overlook Almonesson Lake and feature a wine cellar.

“They’re just very helpful and are great people,” Medany said. “They accommodate us so well.”
The free luncheon will take place between noon and 3 p.m. as is for township seniors only. The township also hosts an annual senior bingo event.

Advance registration is required for the luncheon and can be done at the municipal building. For more information and updates, visit the township Facebook page or website.
