The award-winning, non-profit Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) was chosen from among 150-plus community theaters as New Jersey’s Outstanding Community Theater Of The Year for 2022 by the New Jersey Association Of Community Theatres (NJACT). The award was presented on Sept. 18 at NJACT’s Annual Perry Awards Ceremony, which was held at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway, NJ.

“Moorestown Theater Company exhibited a dedication to their community and the arts, even through unprecedented times,” said NJACT President PJ Campacci. “From their beginnings in July 2003 with a 90- member, all-ages cast delivering eight performances of “Annie”, MTC has grown to an awe-inspiring 928 performances of 206 productions with the inclusion of 8,795 multigenerational cast members through August 2022. We are proud to introduce Moorestown Theater Company as our 2022 recipient of NJACT’s Outstanding Community Theater Of The Year award.”

In its 20th anniversary season, Moorestown Theater Company has been the honored recipient of several additional awards this year, including Best Community Theater Award by the readers of SJ Magazine, Best Live Theater Award by the readers of The Burlington County Times and Best Collaborative Effort Of The Year Award with BAYADA Home Health Care by the Non-Profit Development Center of Southern New Jersey.

Special to The Sun: Shown with the Moorestown Theater Company’s award are founding Music Director (left to right) Beverly Bennett, founding Managing Director Carol Ann Murray, NJACT President PJ Campacci, founding Producing Artistic Director Mark Morgan and Creative and Technical Director Jack Morgan.

“We are extremely humbled and honored to be selected as the recipient of this very prestigious award,” said Mark Morgan, MTC’s co-founding producing artistic director. “We thank the NJACT board for recognizing our contributions to the community and our commitment to keeping musical theater alive during the COVID-19 pandemic. MTC was proud to work with passionate community members to produce and perform 19 live musicals between June 2020 and December 2021 when most of the theater world was shut down.”

MTC continues a run of South Jersey community theaters recently winning this award as Haddonfield Plays & Players won in 2019, and The Road Company won in 2016. MTC is the 23rd community theater to receive this award since it was first given out in 1999. (There was no award given in 2021.)

Please join MTC in celebrating these honors at its upcoming fund-raising dinner-dance, its Extrava-Gala, on Oct. 15 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Westin Mount Laurel Hotel at 555 Fellowship Road.

Channel 6abc news anchor (and MTC trustee and performer) Rick Williams will serve as Master of Ceremonies. There will be live musical performances by MTC cast members and dance music by MTC, including Trustee Tom McHale and his band, Radiation Nation, as well as auctions, raffles, and gaming tables. Tickets can be purchased at MoorestownTheaterCompany.org, with questions answered at (856) 778-8357.
