There are two fun and festive motor-coach trips offered in September and December hosted by the Moorestown Senior group, the Evergreen Women’s Club in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department. The first is a trip to the landmark hotel, The Flanders Hotel in Ocean City, NJ for high tea on Sept. 13. Bus departs at 10:30 a.m. and returns at 4:15 p.m. Take a break and enjoy the beauty and luxury of this grand hotel. You’d be in good company – cartoonist Al Capp, and actors Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly stayed there.
The ‘Jewel of the Jersey Shore” opened in 1923 to provide a world-class resort destination for the region. It was named in honor of fallen World War I Allied troops in the 1914 “Battle of Flanders”. Because of its then state of the art ‘fireproof’ materials – tile roofing, steel girders and concrete, it survived the great fire of 1927 as well as natural disasters. Come join in for tea, scones, quiche and desserts.
On Dec. 14, there will be a festive trip for lunch to The Waterfront restaurant in Forked River, NJ and then the group will continue on to see Irving Berlin’s musical “White Christmas” at the Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, NJ. Bus departs at 9:15 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m.
Buses depart from First Presbyterian Church, 101 Bridgeboro Road in Moorestown. Trips are open to non-residents. Cost for High Tea in Ocean City is $70. Cost for Surflight Theatre and lunch is $85. For information, contact Terry Kelly at 856-866-1869.
The Moorestown Senior women’s club meets every Tuesday afternoon at the Senior Center at Jeff Young Park on New Albany Road. New members welcome! Come make some new friends.
