Deptford Township will give a warm welcome to fall when it hosts its fifth annual fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Andaloro Farm.

“The festival is held at the farm, which has 39 acres,” said Mayor Paul Medany. “We have a band, games for kids, a wagon and free pumpkins to hand out to people.”

According to the mayor, more than 1,000 people are expected to attend the festival and celebrate the coming of a new season as a community. There will also be hayrides and activities for the whole family.

Parking will be available at the Deptford Recreation Center, where buses will transport people to Andaloro Farm and back during the event’s six hours.

“The buses will be regularly transporting people,” said Medany, who will be among township council and other officials at the festival. “They will be running all day. We use our own buses and if need be, we’ll borrow a bus.”

Andaloro, a well-known vegetable farm, has been owned by the township for about seven years, according to Medany, after the family that founded it agreed to preservation. The township paid $1.3 million for the land.

The farm itself – saved from the development common at former farms in South Jersey – is more than 100 years old and was a large, thriving business during its heyday. The mayor himself worked there as a youth.

Fall festival hours are 2 to 8 p.m. and the free event requires no registration. For updates, time changes and possible cancellations, visit the township website and Facebook page.
