Tabernacle moves municipal offices from town hall

Relocation to nearby mobile building took effect May 2

The Tabernacle Township Committee met on April 25 to discuss the relocation of municipal offices because of unsafe conditions at town hall. They have been relocated to a mobile building nearby.

Tabernacle Township Committee met last month to discuss relocation of all municipal offices from what it deemed an “unsafe’ town hall to a mobile building across the parking lot.

Town hall closed on April 29 and the new offices relocated on May 2 to the lot on the right side facing town hall. The township also cited issues with the town hall foundation in its decision, according to Administrator Maryalice Brown,

who noted that handicap spots are available at the new building.

“I anticipate everybody being in and up and running no later than May 9.” she said

The meeting’s other topic was a proclamation for one of Tabernacle’s own. Mayor Samuel R. Moore, III acknowledged the outstanding public service and retirement of Municipal Court Administrator, Margaret Guerina, who worked for the township for 28 years, 24 in her last position.

Multiple committee members expressed their thanks for Guerina’s service, including Nancy McGinnis.

“I just want to say thank you to Margaret for your dedication and service to Tabernacle all these years,” she noted. “Just wish you a lot of happiness in your retirement.”

During public comment, Stormwater Outreach Specialist Jack McCausland from the Pinelands Preservation Alliance addressed reconnection for a rain garden installation. The alliance mission is to preserve the Pine Barrens ecosystem and promote public engagement.

“I just kinda want to understand if Tabernacle is still interested in this project,” he said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for the community. It’s a beautiful rain garden that would be installed free of charge.”

Later in the meeting, Brown acknowledged McCausland’s concerns and noted that the township will seek to coordinate with the alliance for the nature project.

In other news, committee member Rober C. Sunbury Jr. suggested that Township Solicitor William Burns be appointed Public Information Officer (PIO) for the township, a move agreed on by the entire panel..

“Thank you for the opportunity to be PIO,” Burns said. “I look forward to serving the residents of Tabernacle and the committee in this new and additional capacity.”

Residents can look forward to the 2022-’23 Tabernacle town budget introduction on a date in May yet to be determined, and the adoption of the budget in June.
