The Mantua committee approved the hiring of a patrol officer for the township during its public meeting on March 21.
Tyler Ciaccio was sworn in at the session by Mayor Pete Scirrotto.
“Congratulations, patrolman Ciaccio, and welcome to our community,” said Deputy Mayor Robert Zimmerman.
The committee also approved a memorandum of understanding between the township and police Lt. Shawn Butler of the police department.
In other news, the reconstruction of bathroom facilities at Chestnut Branch Park will continue as the committee approved an extended contract for the Community Development Block Grant. A contract with Jobs4Blue was also authorized for services in off- duty employment for police- related activities.
The 2021 Mantua Township local road program was approved for a contract increase of $8504.55, after the committee authorized a release of retainage for the project. A solar permit fee in the amount of $428 was also approved and will be refunded..
After approving various tax refunds – including one for remaining escrow monies – the committee passed a resolution to amend the district’s labor contract with the public works union. That will add a new title and job status for a supervisor or lead mechanic to be added to the public works department.
While an official municipal budget has yet to be introduced, the committee resolved its delay by adopting a temporary emergency financial plan that will cover the first three months of the year. The official 2022 budget is expected to be introduced and adopted in the coming weeks.
The last order of business at the meeting was approval for the Mantua Township Land Use Board to make preliminary investigations into what needs redeveloping in the township. Parcels in discussion include Lambs Road, Route 322, Route 45 and Jefferson Road.
The next township committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 18, at 6 p.m. in the municipal building.
