The Interact Club at Moorestown High School will host Soup for the Soul at the Community House of Moorestown on Feb. 12 to benefit a Philadelphia nonprofit that focuses on food insecurity and hunger.
“Soup for the Soul is essentially our way to set up a soup kitchen kind of setting, where we have local restaurants donate soup and bread,” said Tim Hurley, advisor for the Interact Club.
“We typically have students make some baked goods and things like that as well to kind of go along with it, but the focus is the soup.”
“By helping out with this organization, Philabundance, we’re tackling the global problem as a whole,” said Keyan Vojdani, junior chair of Soup for the Soul, “So the ripple effect that it causes goes on and on from here.”
Hurley is proud of his club’s efforts.
“Their knowledge of the event and their knowledge of the process of everything is always invaluable to the learning process and kind of helps everyone along the way as well,” he explained. “It’s really great to see kids take true ownership of it.”
Vojdani looks forward to seeing the community come together for Philabundance.
“It really epitomizes the human bonding experience,” he noted. “Even though you might not know those people, by having the ability to help them in such great magnitude, it really shows your commitment to helping out with a great cause that we have going on here.”
Hurley considers Soup for the Soul a Moorestown tradition.
“It’s always great to see people kind of hanging out that have come year after year,” he said. “It’s always a great accomplishment at the end to see the community give back and to hear their feedback.”
“It’s important to give back to the community in the ways that we can,” Vojdani said.
Soup for the Soul hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Takeout will be available and there will be a silent auction and live music.
