Santa Night Food Drive returns on Dec. 17

Haddonfield resident continues family’s annual tradition

Special to The Sun/The Sun: Last year, Santa Night was held on two nights to help with social distancing. The tradition continues this Friday evening at 6:15 p.m. in Haddonfield.

Four years ago, Haddonfield resident Chris Timpano took up his parent’s family tradition of Santa Night, a night where the community is invited to stop by his house at 300 Windsor Avenue, enjoy holiday decorations, take photos with Santa and bring food donations for St. Vincent de Paul’s food bank in Medford.

“We have quite a variety of nostalgic Christmas decorations,” Timpano reflected.”I would say there’s no real open space in the back yard that doesn’t have some decorations.  We have some lights that are strung across the yard as well.

In years past, his parents (who live in Medford) held the event, but after downsizing, Timpano decided to carry on the tradition.

This year, Santa Night will be happening on Dec. 17, at 6:15 p.m. at 300 Windsor Avenue, Haddonfield NJ.

“We have a strong relationship with the people who run the Saint Vincent de Paul (food bank) in Medford,” Timpano explained. “It’s interesting because we’ve done it so many years, and the food items have grown year after year, so they’ve grown to expect an influx of food the week before Christmas.”

Santa will be arriving at 6:30 p.m., but Timpano advises people to come earlier, as the road will be blocked off. In addition to Santa arriving and the food donations, Timpano has also arranged for Mummers to be in attendance and has reached out to a few high schools for the potential of having carollers or choirs as well.
