New Pinelands Library to open in Medford

The Burlington County Library System will open at its new home on the first floor of the Medford Town Hall at 49 Union Street.

The Burlington County Commissioners and Burlington County Library System are thrilled to announce the opening-date of the new modern Pinelands Library in Medford.

The Burlington County Library System location will open on Dec. 13 at its new home on the first floor of the Medford Town Hall at 49 Union Street. It will replace the nearly 50-year-old library facility at 39 Allen Street, which will permanently close on Dec. 7.

During the transition period, any materials on hold from the Pinelands Library will be available for pickup at the Evesham Library.

“Our dedicated staff is working hard behind the scenes to coordinate a smooth transition into the new facility and we are all looking forward to ringing in the New Year in a wonderful new space,” said Burlington County Library System Director Ranjna Das. “The location and facilities may be new, but when visitors walk through the doors, they can expect to find the same warm, inviting ambiance and strong sense of community that has long been associated with our Pinelands location.”

A public grand-opening celebration at the new facility is expected early in 2022.

“The Burlington County Library System was New Jersey’s first county library system and it continues to expand services and amenities to meet our residents’ needs,” said Burlington County Commissioner Deputy Director Dan O’Connell, who is the Commissioners’ liaison to the library system. “The new Pinelands Library is the culmination of a lot of planning and hard work, and I want to thank everyone who participated. It will be a great resource for the greater Medford area and the surrounding Pinelands region.”

The Pinelands Library first opened in 1972 and was the second branch library in the Burlington County Library System, joining the system’s main library and the Cinnaminson location. It was later expanded in 1984 to include a separate children’s space.

The new facility in the Medford Town Hall will feature several new modern library amenities, including:

  • A dedicated tech center featuring both Mac and PC computers
  • Study room
  • Event space
  • Improved customer parking
  • Larger children’s department
  • New furnishing and technology
  • A café, meeting and workspace in a shared foyer

The second floor of the 23,000-square-foot building already houses the township’s municipal offices.

The new library facility’s furnishing and technology was purchased with the assistance of a $50,000 donation from the Medford Library Association to the Burlington County Library System Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to raise funds to support the library system and its mission.
