Adult programs for fall at Moorestown Rec Department

The Moorestown Rec Department is offering activities such as basketball, yoga, and line dancing this fall for adults.

The Moorestown Recreation Department offers adult programs this fall that include basketball, yoga, pickleball and line dancing.

Stay active this fall with adult programs at the Moorestown Rec Department. What better way to stay healthy, get some exercise and meet people while having fun? Dance, smash a wiffle ball, shoot some hoops or take some deep breaths and stretch.

Adult basketball is for men and women, ages 30 and over. Pickup games are on Monday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Church Street Rec Center. First session started Monday Sept. 20, but registration is still open (program ends Nov. 1). Dust off your free shot and get in the game.

Can’t get enough pickleball or curious about this game that has become so popular? The Rec has two-night sessions – Tuesdays and Thursdays starting in mid-October through early December. Two courts play at once from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and players rotate in after each match. This is a user-friendly game for virtually any age/fitness level and can be learned quickly. Ninth graders and up can register for this fast-paced, exciting sport.

Line dancing continues! Offered on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. starting Oct. 4, for six weeks. Get in line and learn a new dance every week. Returning dancers will learn new steps to build their portfolio of moves. Lisa Cotter is the founder of “Get to Steppin’” line dance company and has been teaching since 1994. Step lively to country, pop and soul music.

Adult drop-in fitness classes are on a pay-as-you-go basis for scheduling flexibility. Set up an account online and drop-in when it’s convenient. These are ongoing classes: ‘Vinyasa Yoga’ on Mondays at 9:15 a.m., ‘Barre & Tone’ on Thursdays at 9:15 a.m. and ‘Integrated Full Body Resistance Training & Cardio’ on Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. These hour-long classes are open to beginners and more advanced fitness levels.

The Rec is fortunate to have very dedicated and talented instructors. Lindsey Thul teaches the ‘Integrated Full Body Resistance’ class which is a progressive full body workout. Thul varies the exercise selection, tempo and timing to keep the classes dynamic. Thul is a NASM personal trainer and an ACE group fitness instructor.

The ‘Barre & Tone’ class combines elements of ballet, yoga and pilates to improve balance, flexibility and build strength. Sommer Bayard has danced since childhood and performed in New York and Disney World.

Vinyasa yoga is also known as “flow yoga” and strings together poses through movement and breath. Jen Scharf is a certified Thai Yoga Bodywork practitioner. Scharf promotes connecting mindfulness and physical fitness through yoga. Her classes are dynamic and restorative.
