Medford hosts its outdoor Main Street market after COVID pause

Event a collaboration between environmental panel, merchants

The Medford Main Street Market welcomes residents at Medford Village Park with food and vendors to enjoy

Medford hosted its Main Street market at  Medford Village Park on Aug. 14, an event  that was first held two years ago.

The idea came when the township’s environmental affairs advisory committee applied for a Sustainable South Jersey certification, which requires hosting a local farm market. In 2019, a collaborative effort between the environmental committee, the Medford Business Association and Main Street merchants resulted in the township’s own outdoor market.

The Main Street market, canceled last year because of COVID, is held on the second and fourth Saturday of every month from July through October. Vendors include farmers, artist intercrafters and nonprofits, as well as those selling food.

Among the vendors at the market on Saturday included, Eckert farms and Far and Away Farm Cut Flowers, both located in Tabernacle Township. The Far and Away Farm Cut Flowers stand was surrounded by vibrant sunflowers for residents to take home for $10 a bundle. Whereas Eckert farms brought vegetables for residents to pick from including fresh eggplant, tomatoes, corn, zucchini and many more.

Among local vendors at the Aug. 14 market were Eckert Farms and the new Peewee’s Ice Cream, which will officially open in two months at the Feed Mill at Medford Village, according to co-owners Maranda Burns and Brian Jones.

“We are both excited,’’ Burns said. “This started out as a side hobby project of ours …  The Medford community has been so welcoming and we’re really excited to be part of a community and get involved in different events and parades that they have.”

The Medford Green Team was also at the market to collect plastic from residents and  emphasize the message of a cleaner Earth. If enough plastic is collected by the team at upcoming markets, it will go to a newly built Trex bench in the community.
