Clearview Regional was named the best high school in Gloucester County on April 27, in a U.S. News & World Report, a global authority on education that also disclosed the 2021 best high-school rankings.
The report ranked more than 17,800 public high schools throughout the country, measuring how well schools serve students from various social and economic walks of life.
“What makes Clearview the best is that they offer an unlimited amount of courses and they are always on the leading edge of technology,” said Kelly Fowler, president of the Clearview Regional High School PTO.
Fowler, who has been president of Clearview’s Parent-Teacher Organization for four years, also cited the school’s extracurricular activities.
“They have a lot of opportunities for people to get involved, whether it be through academic clubs, sports, music, choir, or band,” she explained.
The methodology behind the rankings focuses on six factors, including college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates. College readiness specifically measures student participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.
“Families can use the rankings to see how schools compare at the national, state, and local levels on factors like graduation rates and college readiness,” said Anita Narayan, managing editor of education at U.S. News. “The rankings also provide insight into academic performance among underserved groups.”
The data used in the April 27 report comes from the 2018-2019 academic school year, so the pandemic did not play a role in the rankings,
Each school is ranked by an overall score of zero to 100. Clearview netted an overall score of 79.97, placing it in the 79th percentile nationally.
Fowler said all faculty at Clearview genuinely care about the success of students in and out of the classroom.
“The teaching staff is wonderful,” Fowler noted. “They are always there for the children and are always donating their extra time, whether it be for extra help with their work or writing letters for college recommendations.”
Clearview Regional High School, with its student-teacher ratio of 14:1, is also ranked 136th in New Jersey and 73rd in Philadelphia metro schools.
